Recognizing the value in this historic and meaningful ship to the United States, the people of Alaska and the US Coast Guard a group of private investors, former Coast Guard officers and former STORIS crewmen quickly formed the STORIS MUSEUM.

Based in Juneau, this group was organized to secure the former Coast Guard Cutter STORIS  as a museum, historical display and an education center  in Juneau, Alaska.  As of November 2011, legislation is pending to preserve this STORIS as Alaska's first maritime museum.
